or why keeping the ball bands is a very good idea

I had bought 2 packets of this yarn as I’d originally planned doing a scarf or shawl. I’d tried out plenty but nothing really pleased me so the wool had been wound up again and put away to await inspiration. Then I got into socks. Out came the yarn and I was off.  I decided to knit one starting from the outside of the ball and the other from the inside of another ball – I’d have fraternal socks rather than identical ones. Starting at the toe I was well up to the ankle on the second sock when I started to feel a little uneasy. These socks weren’t looking as similar as expected. The socks are finished and they are different! Yep, I’ve knit my socks from two different dye lots!pair of non-identical striped socks
