In the past I have often wrinkled my brow at sleeveless chunky knits. If you need a bulky sweater to keep you warm, why skimp on the sleeves? One of the drawbacks of sitting at a desk for long hours, is the wear and tear on jumper sleeves, particularly if there’s a fair bit of mouse-usage involved. (Light bulb moment) Perhaps some kind of vest or sleeveless pullover is a good idea after all! (Browses patterns on Ravelry) Factor in some ill-considered bargain 4-ply (fingering/sock) yarn and suddenly there’s a meaningful, practical, stash-busting result!
So here’s my Desk Job! It gives me just that extra bit of warmth I need when I’m sitting for longer periods of time. I used two strands of yarn together and by pairing large stripe with small stripe I’ve got rid of the prominent bands of colour that put me off the yarn after I’d bought it. I can wear it casually open or pin the fronts shut for extra warmth. It feels cosier than a traditional waistcoat or vest – is that because of the sleeve caps?
FO Friday Summary: a simple quick knit that makes satisfying use of less-loved yarn! Pattern modifications ravelled here

I agree. Shrugs are the best for that extra bit of warmth and at the same time to keep cool.

Very nice!! I’m just learning to knit although I stay with knit and purl, and I know how to do the cable stitch.

Thank you! I’ll keep that in mind. I have some other projects lined up for
the moment though, but I’ll see what I can do.

I have a shrug thing which lives on my chair at work in a lovely non colour which goes with everything. I can even unbutton the sides and use it as a wrap like an old lady. I totally agree you need something to keep you warm when sitting. Especially in the office where the air con is all full blast to keep the men happy.

Buttoned sides – that sounds intriguing!

It’s a long rectangle with buttons on the side so that I can wear it as a shrug. Really versatile!

Nice! Like you, I’ve been plotting another vest or something like that for the office. They are great at keeping the torso warm but leaving the arms free!

Interesting; I would never have thought of that particular benefit of short sleeved sweaters!
