Casting off… and casting on!

I’ve finally finished my cardigan but it deserves a post of its own so here’s a little picture in the meantime.

And because a pair of socks is not enough to have on the needles at any one time, here’s a little peek at a project that I’ve just cast on. I’m making a wrap using Manos del Uruguay yarn. It’s not for me and I already know that I’ll be loath to part with it. The colour so suits the pattern but more of that later…

FO Friday – Pink Mix Possums

It’s far too warm for socks right now but I know I’ll enjoy wearing these pinky-red beauties in the winter. The pattern is Chain Drive Socks and it’s by Heather Sebastian (aka Joey’s House). It’s a little bit like Socks on a Plane but with a smaller cable twist down each side of the leg and foot. This means there’s no left nor right sock which will even out wear so they should last longer, too! The colour is Pink Mix and these socks mark the start of my plan to broaden my sock colour horizons for the year.

I knit socks with a fair bit of negative ease so they fit snuggly but not tightly. As a result, there’s always quite a bit left over. I think this yarn would be perfect for a pair of fingerless mitts!

FO Friday – Man Sock

Yep, that’s right: sock.

Singular.

One sock.

I had forgotten just how looooong man socks are. This one is a Time Traveller Sock by Liz Sedmak. It’s a combination of 4×1 and 2×1 ribbing and I adjusted the sequences to match my 72 stitch sock. The flatter 4×1 sections are placed centrally front and back with more of the narrower 2×1 ribs at the sides. This should make for a neat fit, too. It They will be a Christmas present so there’s no trying on.

Last week was filled with adjusting packing lists and switching items from ship to air and back. The removal company came on the Friday morning and took it all away. If everything goes according to plan, Mr Soknitsome will get the air freight at the end of next week and the sea shipment will arrive just after I get to Sydney. We’ve done this packing/moving malarkey several times before so we know what’s what. Having said that, I sat down one evening this week and thought “Hello…you were supposed to go!”

AIWCC, Cologne, crafters, Cross-stitch, Finished Object, FO, Kitchener, knitting, Stitch 'n' Bitch

Today was one of those Mondays that I particularly like. Members of the American International Women’s Club of Cologne met for Stitch ‘n’ Bitch.

It was a smaller group this time, made up of five knitters knitting, one stitcher stitching, and a child-free mum browsing pattern books.

When we meet, we admire each other’s handiwork, drink coffee and put the world to rights while we knit, crochet and sew.

Today, members worked on a counted (!) cross-stitch sampler; a jumper, now cast on for the fourth time; a scarf that only gets knitted at Stitch ‘n’ Bitch; baby booties; a baby cardigan; and a Top Secret Project.

The Top Secret Project was supposed to turn into a Finished Object but chatty knitters and written instructions for Kitchener stitch don’t mix well.

Sadly, I can count the number of Stitch ‘n’ Bitch get-togethers I’ll still attend on the fingers of one hand. But that’s another story…
